Wangtek 5150ES on SVr4

Okay, so the Wangtek 5150ES isn't supposed to be supported on 386 V.4,
but I added the ident string to st01/space.c, remade the kernel, and now
it seems to read okay. Problem is writing to the unit is horrendously
slow. Do other SCSI streamers run quickly? This is like the old Sun
shoebox. I doubt I'm getting 250K/minute.
Is there some way to increase the block/buffer size or whatever, so that
there is less chug-a-luga reverse tape motion and more "streaming"??
