ESIX 5.3.2 Rev D Hard Disk Driver Question

I am receiving the following message on the console with regular frequency:
"NOTICE: Adapter ST506 Disk Unit 0 (System Disk 0): Optimization changed from
TIME to SPACE" or "NOTICE: ... Optimization changed from SPACE to TIME".
I do not think that this is an error message, however, I would be interested
if anyone knows what is really being done by the system when this message
appears.

This messages appears with the arrival of news and upon the expiration of
news. I have installed the system to use the ESIX Fast File System on all
of the Unix partitions.
