ISC 2.2.1 + AHA 1740 EISA SCSI + SCSI tape drives = PANIC (SOLVED!)

It turns out the 'EISA Version 1.0' upgrade was the cause of
all my trouble. I removed the package, reinstalled the
kernel configuration utilities, relinked the kernel
and everything works just fine now.

I did not need the SSU.7 fix.

I got suspicious when I found out the (undocumented) command
/etc/test_eisa would panic the system. So did the "CONFIGURE HPDD"
option of /etc/kconfig. The EISA upgrade comes with a different
kconfig that reads /dev/eisarom to find out what kind of HDU
controller you are using.

I do not *yet* need the EISA upgrade as the machine now has only 16MB RAM.

I should add that the release notes state the upgrade is validated
only for COMPAQ DESKPRO and COMPAQ SYSTEMPRO hardware.
