Is this software support or what?

While prowling around on DSIN I ran across a note on one of the problems
that has been mentioned here - that cal(1) doesn't work correctly on some
days. Now you and I know that this is because DEC broke some of the programs
using regular expressions when they converted them to 8-bit compatible and
it'd only take a few minutes to change the buffer size and recompile...

The workarounds given:

1) don't use cal on those days
2) try to advance the system date to skip by those days

yeah, no kidding... I feel sorry for anyone using nfs, make or dump
			who tries option (2).

On a similar note, I've been trying to get a fix for the problem that
you can't run the nameserver and uucp at the same time because the
uucp programs are compiled with a short buffer for receiving the host
name - 16 characters or so and most fully qualified domain names are
going to exceed that. After all, ".commodore.com" is 14 or so and I
don't have any real affection for 2 character hosts names...

Now, despite the fact that these are both supported software and I'm paying
for software support, the current response is to wait for 4.0, so I've asked
them to escalate the problem and will wait to see what happens next...
