PC-NFS and Ultrix - mount problems

We have recently purchased a couple of DECStation 3100s to use as NFS
Servers in our PC Laboratories. We have completed poting all of our
network daemons etc and have come across a problem which we don't understand.
The PCs are running PC-NFS 3.0.1 and are being denied access to the
DEC3100s file systems when they attempt to mount a directory.
e.g.
/etc/exports
----
/usr
/users
If a PC attempts to mount /usr/spool or /users/myhomedir it gets an
access denied by server message? I can do these mounts from one of the
other DECstations or our Pyramid, but not the PC?
If we change the exports file to:
/usr
/usr/spool
/users
/users/myhomedir
/users/youhomedir
etc.
Now I can mount the directory from the PC.
We do not get this behaviour with either OSx on the Pyramid or SunOS on
my 386i, can any one explain whats happening and what we do about it?
