VARARGS broken on the DECStation?

In comp.sys.mips it was recently reported that varargs is broken
when the first argument is a double.  The suggestion was to use
stdargs instead.  Does the DECStation running Ultrix 3.1 have the
same problem?  How about when running 4.0?
