emacs temp. locks up

	I am posting this letter to hopefully receive help, and also to
find out if other sites are having the same problem.

	I have noticed intermittent delays in loading gnu emacs version
18.55. When starting emacs I get the usual emacs screen, with the
status area as follows:

			Loading...done

The session will than lock up for 2 to 4 minutes. After the lock up 
emacs works just fine. 

Our system configuration is as follows:

	VAX 6000-440
	256 Megs RAM
	Ultrix Version 4.0 (almost 4.1 with all the patches)
	Terminals are via LAT, with Xyplex servers.

We don't have this problem on our VAX 8800 running 3.1.	 I would
appreciate any help in this matter.
