Trying to attach a Sony Optical disk to a DECstation 3100, help!

According to the vendor you need to do a dd to activate the device before using it.  Unfortunatly the system which has the optical right now is in transit from a research project.  The vendor should be able to help you.

It should be here on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
