How do you set up a modem on a DECstation 2100/3100?

I appologize if this has been asked before but I haven't seen any
discussion of this.

Is it possible to set up a modem on one of the serial ports on a
DECstation 2100/3100?  We have
been trying to do this for some time without much success.  We are
currently running ULTRIX
v3.1 but should be upgrading to v4.1 shortly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please respond via email and
I'll summarize to the net 
if there is enough interest.

P.S.  Don't let our organization's name fool you; we do use ULTRIX in
addition to VMS!
