It seems to me that sticking with RFC733 would solve many such problems.
While RFC733 is not universal, it is very widely adhered to.

message     =  fields *( CRLF *text )       ; Everything after
                                            ;  first null line
                                            ;  is message body

Your mail reader need not display header lines it can't understand, but
should continue searching for "From:" or "Date:" or whatever until it
comes to the first null line.
