I have a question concerning the compatibility of PWB and Bell Version 6
UNIX programs.
We are trying to bring up (on our PDP-11/45 Bell Version 6 system) a large
multi-overlay-module software program that was written on a PDP-11/45
PWB system. Of the nine load modules we were given,
only two appear to function on our system. I have recompiled the source
code to turn on the debugging statements. I had to use the pcc
compiler on our BBN Version 6 system because of things such as hexdecimal
numbers and nested includes which the Bell Version 6 cc compiler cannot
handle. The debugging version modules don't work any better and don't give
me any clue (that I can see) as to why some modules won't be "execl"-ed.
One module, the ELS Keychain data management system, was written in
Fortran, for which we do not have a compiler so as to turn on the debugging.
My question is this: Is there any reason why PWB-compiled code and/or
pcc-compiled code will not run on a Bell Version 6 kernel?
Any insight into PWB/Bell Version 6/phototypesetter incompatibilities
would be greatly appreciated.
