New RFCs are now available from the Network Information Center in the
NETINFO directory at SRI-NIC.
These five RFCs by M. A. Padlipsky discuss the ARPA protocol family and
clarify the differences between it and the ISO Reference Model. These
memos were issued as Technical Reports by the Mitre Corporation in
September 1982.
The purpose of these five RFCs is to present information on the concepts
underlying the ARPA protocols and to promote discussion of protocol
design issues.
RFC 871:
Title: A Perspective on the Arpanet Reference Model
Author: M. Padlipsky
Pages : 25
pathname: [SRI-NIC]<NETINFO>RFC871.TXT
This memo describes the development of the ARPA protocols, and
compares and contrasts the ARPA protocol reference model with the ISO
Reference Model.
RFC 872:
Title: TCP-ON-A-LAN
Author: M. Padlipsky
Pages : 8
pathname: [SRI-NIC]<NETINFO>RFC872.TXT
This memo discusses the use of TCP on a local area network.
RFC 873:
Title: The Illusion of Vendor Support
Author: M. Padlipsky
Pages : 8
pathname: [SRI-NIC]<NETINFO>RFC873.TXT
This memo argues that vendor supplied software for computer
networking based on the ISO Reference Model is not worth waiting for,
especially in light of the existing ARPA family of protocols.
RFC 874:
Title: A Critique of X.25
Author: M. Padlipsky
Pages : 13
pathname: [SRI-NIC]<NETINFO>RFC874.TXT
This memo is a discussion of the CCITT X.25 protocol and its
attendant conceptual framework, the ISO Reference Model.
RFC 875:
Title: Gateways, Architectures, and Heffalumps
Author: M. Padlipsky
Pages : 8
pathname: [SRI-NIC]<NETINFO>RFC866.TXT
This memo discusses Gateways and Protocol Translation.
Public access files may be copied from the NETINFO directory at SRI-NIC
