Subject: (U) trademark
To: unix-wizards at brl-vgr
The (U) ("U" in a circle) mark is a trademark of the
Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America. It is the symbol of
the KASHRUT DIVISION of the aforementioned organization. It specifies
that the product (and the company) have undergone inspection(s) that allow
the product to be certified as KOSHER. These inspections are in general
performed by rabbis appointed by the Union. Since the symbol is a trademark
it cannot be used without prermission of the Union.

Somebony wanted to use (U) as the tradmark for UNIX?? Do we now get a lot
of jokes about UNIX being kosher? Are the pipes circumsized? Do UNIX systems
have to stop between sundown friday and the appearance of three stars on
saturday?
and of course when you kill any processes you need a rabbi present to insure
that you do it properly.
