login problems on a ABLE DH/DM

**** THE CONFIGURATION ****
We have a VAX 750 with a UDA50/RA81, a TU80, and 2 DMF-32s 
that we have been running 4.1BSD on for a couple of months.

We are trying to add ABLE DH/DMs to the system, and having
some problems.

The DH/DM's appear to work just fine with CU and UUCP.


**** THE PROBLEM ****
When you try to login on one of the DH/DM ports,

1,	login prompt shows up on the terminal,
2,	You can type in the user ID.
3,	the process hangs after you hit return.

On further investigation we have found that we are hung in
"login" at a "stty(0,TIOCSETP)".

It is possible to kill the "login" process, but the process
stays in a <exiting> state for a long time, (10-45 minutes).


**** ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ****
We are using version of the software
uda.c	1.3	82/08/21
dmf.c	4.3	82/05/27
dh.c	4.39	81/21/07

We cannot change to 4.2BSD because of the applications that we run.

We loaded the original distribution tape (4.1) and the problem exists
there

We have not tried loading 4.2 to see if it too has this problem,
though in comparing the 4.1 dh.c and the 4.2 dh.c we did not see
any major changes.
