I don't think compatibility with EMACS is a necessary criterion
for a good terminal; EMACS violates terminal usage standards
left and right. Besides failing to support DC3/DC1 flow control
(locally we have fixed our versions of EMACS to support it if it
is being used), it likes to have the user typing the ESC key, in
violation of ANSI standards.
