Security of uucp (Question).

I run the uucp/netnews software here at S.R Systems. However, I am
NOT the system administrator. We use mail quite often between sites and
also subscribe to all netnews news groups. In other words, we (or at
least I) think the network is a very useful tool. Our sa is rather
paranoid about the security of the news/mail system. I would like to
know exactly how secure uucp/news is. As it is now, we poll one site
for news and one for mail. No one calls us. I would like to be able
to pass on the news/mail to other sites but our sa thinks it would be
a security problem to have anyone call us. I disagree. Has anyone
done any thorough testing of this. Also, what are the opinions of
other netter's about end sites (i.e. assuming the CPU power is available
to pass on info but don't anyway). As you can see, I am rather
frustrated about the whole thing. In case it matters, we run 4.2 on
Suns. Please mail responces, I'll post if anyone wants results.
Thanks,
UUCP: Matt Goheen
