What printers can I use with eqn/nroff?

Can anyone reccomend some printers for use with nroff and eqn (and even tbl).
We would like the quality to be good enough for thesis production, so a
good dot-matrix or a daisy wheel is acceptable. Please bear in mind that
we only intend to use nroff and NOT troff so anything like a posh and expensive
laser printer is probably OTT, anything up to about 2000 pounds sterling or
whatever that is in dollars is ok (3000?).
I know how to build the tab???? for printers having done one for the
tandy/toshiba 2100 family but they a) dont have full greek symbols and b) have a
firmware bug that makes them unsuitable for lots of micro linefeeds in both
directions which eqn etc are going to need. So if you have used a printer that
can easily support a full greek/math set with fairly good paper movement
control (up/down 1/100 of an inch is more than enough) but have not
specifically used eqn/nroff please let me know anyway.
Any experiences anyone has would be gratefully received and if their
is a demand I will post a summary to the net. Email to me please first.
