8600 and 4.2BSD

I'm going to be taking delivery of an 8600 very soon. I want to run
4.3, but as I can't get it yet, I'll have to make do with 4.2. How
much work is involved in changing the code to support the 8600 ?

Has anybody actually done this, if so will they please contact me as
