4.2/4.3 device driver for CALMA wanted

We have been most graciously donated a pair of CALMA CAD/CAM workstations
that run in conjunction with a VMS Vax. We'd like to run them under Unix
instead, since the UCSD EECS department doesn't use VMS much.

Each workstation consists of a Lexidata 68K display processor and some
really nice I/O devices. It interfaces to the Vax with a pair of Unibus
boards that are an intelligent processor using an 8086 and some sort of
multiplexor board, both of CALMA design. Under VMS they appear as a series of
devices as control terminals, bitpads, displays, etc. Apparently the
Unibus boards can accomodate up to six workstations.

Officially, nobody at Calma seemed to know of any Unix interfaces, nor do my
spies inside Calma admit of any Unix existing device drivers or interfaces
for these wonders. Since I don't have any data on the actual interface
to the Unibus I/O boards, it will be difficult to build my own device
driver.

Any pointers or hints of pointers would be greatly appreciated!
Otherwise we're going to have to disassemble the VMS device drivers we've
got and work backwards. yecch.
