config hack for large 4BSD Kernels (Ex: NFS+chaosnet+osinet+x25)

Just wondering if someone has already hacked config for 4BSD systems with
a lot of files.   With large kernels the makefile gets extremely long
lines for the defines of $CFILES, $OFILES, and the make depend stuff.  It's
not a big hassle, but it would be nice not to have to edit the makefile
if I change the configuration.
