i have a tar tape with a lot of files on it that i managed to overwrite the
first block with a tape mark. i know that the rest of the tape is okay
and that the first file isn't too valuable. how do i go about extracting
the rest of the data onto disk and rewriting the tape?
i know i need to find the first block of a valid file near the beginning
and feed everything from there on into tar via a pipe. the dd command
should let me position correctly. what should i be looking for to
identify this block?
any other advice welcome. plese respond by e-mail and PLEASE DON'T ASK
how i managed to do this!
