Gould's UTX-32 (a BSD 4.2 port) calls it /etc/modcap

It's always been my gripe that BSD 4.2 didn't have generic dialing
routines.  Now it seems obvious that there is no std. modem
capabilities file, so one's been invented for Ultrix, UTX, Honey
DanBer, etc. etc.

C-kermit.  It covers a number of systems.
