Help with Lex error

Could someone in netland enlighten me as to what in the world the Lex error

	(Error) Too many positions
      
means?  I try to modify the "positions" internal array size with the %p 
parameter in the definitions section.  When I try to submit the lex source file
to lex for processing I immediately get the message

	(Error) Too many positions

What does this "positions" array represent?  And what does the message mean?
