help with addbib

We have just started to use the bibliographic database on our 4.2 system.
Unfortunately when we use addbib with abstracts enabled it requests the user
to end the abstract with a ^D. Doing this causes the program to loop on all
of it's requests, I suppose it keeps getting end-of-files because the program
does not reset the end-of-file.

So our problem is how to fix this program. We have a binary license for a 
VAX 11/750 and do not have access to the source for addbib. We can use addbib
with the abstract turned off and add them in by hand later, so we are not
stuck by this problem, but it would be nice to have it fixed.

Any help offered is greatly welcomed.
