If you had the ofiles program that was posted to the net a file back,
you could run that on each file system you wanted to dump,
and kill the pid's that had the file system open.
Then you can unmount each file system one by one and dump them
in total safety,  without needing to log everone off.....
then when you are done, remount them.

You will need to make sure to restart all of your system deamons when
you are done.

cron opens /usr/lib
update opens /
lpr opens /usr/spool/lpr
accounting has /usr/adm/acct open
