In fact, there is NO REASON I can think of for ANY FOLLOWUPS to this
article -- send me mail if you've got something to say. Thanks! --vix ]
About two years ago I posted an alpha release of Cron V1.0 to Usenet in
comp.sources.misc. For various reasons (damned unreliable Symmetric 375,
mostly), I never took V1.0 any further than that.
V2 is now ready for external testing. It is known to compile and run on
Ultrix 3.0 with pcc, vcc, and gcc-1.31; it compiles and runs on the DEC
Titan and other unproducts; it compiles and runs on 4.3BSD with pcc.
Basically, it compiles and runs on everything I can try it out on.
I would love to see it tested on a Sun 3 and a Sun 4, each on both 3.x and
4.0. I'd like to see it tested on a Pyramid. Any other 4BSD-oriented
systems would be welcome. No raw SysV systems, though, unless you are
prepared to finish a port begun by someone (me) who knows very little
about SysV.
I'm curious about more than just whether it compiles and runs. I want people
who will proof-read the man pages, comment on the installation procedure, and
just generally poke and prod and tell me the results of their poking and their
prodding.
Don't send mail: just grab it. It is on gatekeeper.dec.com (128.45.9.52)
in ~ftp/pub/vixie, also available to UUCP neighbors of DECWRL in
decwrl!~/pub/vixie:
-r--r--r-- 1 vixie 53613 Dec 10 05:03 cron2-beta.tar.Z
If you don't have FTP access and are not able to UUCP it, DON'T WORRY! It
will be published in several interesting places Real Soon Now -- the only
thing you'll miss is the early bugs.
Again, I must plead: don't followup, send mail. I will respond. I will
summarize. I will send a dollar to everyone who doesn't followup... No,
no, I didn't mean that. But seriously, folks, no followups, okay?
