Sorry, but these diffs are not exactly adequate.  They presume that
all users use vi, which is not at all true.

To support all editors, you would have to do something like:

    caes "${VISUAL-${EDITOR-$defeditor}}" in
	vi|*/vi|ex|*/ex)
	    nomodeline='+set nomodeline'
	    ;;
    esac

...

    ${VISUAL-${EDITOR-$defeditor}} ${nomodeline:+"$nomodeline"} $tmpart $oldart
