Unix 386

I have a few questions about Unix 386.  First of all, I have not yet purchased
a 386 machine but plan to do so within the next 6 months.  What 386 machine
works best with which Unix 386 and has a reasonable price tag?  Will DBMS
packages such as Unify or Infomix work on such as set up.  What other "C"
programing language based DBMS systems, that support "C" application programs
will work?  Does anyone know of an OCR/Scanner device that is supported on
Unix 386?  Thanks in advance for your answers.
