Not all the IPC functions are directly mappable to read, write, etc.,
(what should reading from a semaphore do?)
It should do (dare I say it?) a P operation! And a write could do a V.
Multiple counts could be specified by the byte count! And you could
query the semaphore or specify no waiting by using an ioctl!
Are we having fun yet?
