what should egrep '|root' /etc/passwd print? (Everything)

This all started becuase I WAS using the gnu-egrep and it broke
on of my shellscripts (The news "checkgroups" script). Admittedly,
the shellscript could have been better written, but it was an
incompatible behavior and I wasn't really sure which was 'right'
