Errors during DUMP; query

Sun 4/260 Sun OS 4.0... question. I'm seeing a lot of
errors during dump 'bread:(this should not happen) expected xxxx, got xxxx'
and it seems like there's a bunch of trashed blocks on the disk.
OK, so I run format and fix 'em up. Problem is, I got a lot of 'em, and
now the bad block map is full, and I can't fix any more.
Anyway, the question is, can someone tell me if I can restore
from this dump tape, or do the errors get all the data out of whack?
( I realize that some of the data will be lost, but does it ruin the
synchronization and mess up the rest of the tape as well...?)
thanx in advance,
mike
