HP Laserjet Series II problems

I'm in a bind right now. We have just gotten a new HP Laser Jet Series
II printer for our UNIX system. We have a SUN 3/160 with many terminals
running 4.2 BSD I believe (could be SunOS, but I don't think so). We
are having problems printing, big problems. Right now, the laser is
setup for 19,200 baud, Serial connection, Xon=ON, DTR HI. The entry
in /etc/ttys is as follows: 04ttyh8. 4 is equivalent to:
4|std.19200|19200-baud:\
:sp#19200:
I won't list all of the printcap entry, but a few lines that I am
curious about are:
:tr=\033:
:fc#0171456:
:fs#06321:
:xc#037737:
:xs#040040: and
:cf=/AI/printers/Aprint.hp:
The last line is the cit filter or something. From what I gather, it
makes sure the fonts are loaded (don't worry about this part), and
the last line is:
echo -n "^[E^[&l66P^[&l8D^[&a0R^[(s10V"
the "^[" being an ESC. We put this together from the manual, but the
printcap entries are copied from a "HP compatible" printer's entry.
PROBLEM: We get the first page and a half if we let the header page run,
if no header page, then we get about the first half to three quarters of
a page, and then the print is cut off, just some random spot along any
line in the mentioned region. So, it's not a page size problem. I
am assuming that because it has a 512K buffer, and we are using Xon/Xoff
that the info is being buffered and not lost, but I could be wrong.
All of the print testing we've been doing has been with the lpr command.
ie: lpr -Php somefile or lpr -h -Php somefile.
What I think we need is the proper filters for input and output, and
any associated scripts or other necessities. I am new to this, but
have learned a lot, but neither my boss nor I can go any further.
If additional information is necessary, please ask. Our company does
not have USENET access, nor is our UUCP hooked up to the outside world.
I am doing this from my home machine, but any information or files may
be sent to the address in the header (conexch), or if you don't have
a link (whatever) to conexch, you can send it to baileyc at tramp (I
think that's my address up at Univ. Colorado at Boulder. Could also
be baileyc at boulder.Colorado.EDU, but I don't think so). Another
possible mail address is chrisb at uscad (I think they hook up to sun
and something else). As you can see, I don't now much about USENET
yet, but I'm learning. Thanx!
No fancy ending, sorry....
