Can you make RCS trash master files?

... I have seen RCS trash master files when the disk ran out of space
at inopportune times ...
I could not reproduce the bug using full filesystems (RCS version 4.2, SunOS
4.0.1). RCS cleaned up badly when it ran afoul of BSD's filesize or cputime
limits, but even then it didn't trash master files. Can anyone mail me
evidence of this bug?
