BSD as a Unix standard

Someone asks whether BSD will make any sense, with things like OSF and
SVr4. My theory is that these efforts make BSD even more attractive.
OSF is rumored to be based on SVr2. SVr4 will be *very* different
from SVr2. However all major vendors are now promising reasonable
compatibility with 4.2BSD. I wonder if this doesn't mean that their
BSD emulations will be more compatible with each other than their SV
base?
