Connecting a tty to a socket

I have been playing around with socket programming and I am able to
open a connection to a port on a terminal server.  This is easy.  
Now I would like to use this connection as a tty ... such as placing
a printer/modem on the terminal server port.  How can I connect a
tty to a tcp socket?
