On SysV;  What about placing the program in /etc/inittab?  Is
          /etc/inittab reserved for tty processes only?  It seems
          that you can run anything from there.

Also, what is the equivalent of /etc/inittab on a BSD machine?
          The file /etc/ttytab seems geared to terminal ports.
