Two weeks ago I posted a request for information on System V.4 administration
and programming. I asked for "any and all" and forgot to mention that I
knew of the Prentice-Hall manual set. Oops. Anyway, I was inundated with
references, some of which included ISBN and phone numbers and other useful
stuff, as well as the names of a couple of books I had never heard of,
including one from McGraw-Hill that would seem to be exactly what I needed
(to recommend to someone else). Here's the summary, I tried to preserve
quotes of substance but have summarized and compressed everything else and
probably lost a couple of attributions in the wash.

Review from: lars at iclswe.icl.se (Lars Tunkrans)
A non-expert-level introduction to SVR4. There is a lot of beginners'
stuff in this book but also quite a lot of new facilities in SVR4 are
covered.
NEW EDITIONS OF OLDER BOOKS
Also, check for the more standard UNIX texts to see if they have new
additions for sVr4
e.g. "UNIX System Security"
by Kochan and Woods
WHERE TO FIND THEM
Software Etc. (owned by B. Dalton Booksellers)
SVR4 Manuals are available from Prentice-Hall publishing.
The whole set runs about $400 in a bookstore, slightly less if
you buy direct from Prentice Hall. (201) 767-5937
Prentice-Hall Canada is in Toronto.
SIMPLIFYING THE INTERFACE TO Vr4 SO THERE IS NOT SO MUCH TO LEARN IN THE
FIRST PLACE, THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO MAKE LEARNING SOFTWARE SIMPLE...
Hope rekindled by: decanio at shadow.pyramid.com (Tom DeCanio)
Fortunately there is a bunch of work going
on to make the administration of these machines more friendly, ie simple
menu driven tools that operate much like stuff you would find on a pc. This
really beats manually editing scads of configuration files.
