For private use, I am looking for info on the upgrade from SCO XENIX to
SCO UNIX. Especially with regard to mail and TCP/IP.
Please reply by E-Mail, since I cannot yet read this group (due to the
comp.unix.* reorganisation currently in progress). Followup has thus
been directed to the me, lwj at cs.kun.nl.
The machines are 386 ATs with 10MB, currently running SCO XENIX 2.3.1
with a buggy SCO TCP/IP.
Specific questions:
* What release of SCO UNIX do I need ? Do the early releases have bugs ?
If so, what kind of bugs (i.e. is it possible to work around them)
* Does SCO UNIX have TCP/IP included ? If not (I think so), what version
of SCO TCP/IP do I need ? Are there known bugs ? Differences ? How
good is the socket library on top of streams ?
* The SCO UNIX mail system seems to (again) totally different from most.
How difficult is it to use it in the following setup:
- Two machines connected by ethernet
- UUCP connection with an Internet host
- Full domain name support
Is it possible to replace the SCO MMDF port by a "stock" MMDF, or does
this not match the SCO mail interface ?
We deperately *need* mail, so the mail system must be usable. :-(
* In general, do you think it is wise to upgrade at this point in time ?
Or are we better of staying with XENIX and work around the bugs ?
