getty keeps dying...

We have been experiencing a problem with a uucp link between two local
machines. Vital statistics follow:

They are set up DigiBoard to DigiBoard with a null-modem cable. 19200
Baud. The AT&T box polls the PS/2.

Most of the time, everything works fine ( It polls twice an hour ).
However, occasionally the link goes dead and on the PS/2 console we
get the message:

        "getty on ttyi1c keeps dying... there may be a problem."

Both Digiboards check out fine. If you hang a terminal off the suspect
port, everything works fine.

Has anyone ever experienced a similar problem?
