Subject: Reading TAR and CPIO format SUN cartridges on a PC
I am posting this for a friend who doesn't yet have net access:
**********
With this equipment:
NCR PC-8 (your basic PC/AT(tm) clone) with 60mb QIC-60 1/4" streaming tape
drive OEM'd from Colorado Memory Systems
(The drive and controller info I have:
60mb 1/4-inch streaming tape drive
Mfgr: Wangtek
Model: 55099EN24
Ass'y: 30132-018 Rev.A
Controller board (8-bit bus)
Mfgr: Wangtek
Model: ? Rev.F3
Ass'y: 30850-003
)
Here's needs to be done:
At least read (if not read and write) TAR- and CPIO-format tapes
produced on a SUN 3/260 with the above-described equipment.
Why?:
To use said pc to read Postscript files off of SUN tape
cartridges and dump them offline to either Postscript-compatible
typesetters or 600 dpi laser printers in a graphics production
environment.
I assume that the drive is likely compatible; the controller - who knows?
If the hardware is compatible, what's needed is the software. The person
who wants to do this would like to do it under MS-DOS 3.x. Software that
runs under XENIX would also be acceptable.

our mail router has distemper right now.
Thanks,
