Printing under VP/ix

I have found that printing under VP/ix is extremely slow, the DOS
Print command spooling files much more slowly than it would seem
necessary just to insert the spooled file into the Xenix print
queue. Does someone know what the problem is? I have thought of
the following possibilities:

a) slow servicing of LPTx by VP/ix
b) slowdown loops in DOS print and other printing programs

As it really isn't waiting for a printer, that can't be the problem.
