help with ispell/SCO Xenix

i'm having problems compiling ispell under SCO Xenix 2.2...
it won't compile at all under the "small" model, compiles with
nasty warnings about putting far pointers into ints under "large" (-M2l)
model, and buildhash crashes badly; compiles ok under "medium" (-M2m)
model but buildhash now crashes with :

	./buildhash dict ispell.hash
0 couldn't allocate space for word abasement
*** Error code 1

anybody out there have an appropriate Makefile?

since this is likely pretty old stuff please don't waste net
