You might wanna try Pcomm...

Pcomm is public domain telecommunications program for Unix that is
designed to operate similar to the MSDOS program, ProComm.  ProComm(TM)
is copyrighted by Datastorm Technologies Inc.  This a compeletly new
program and contains no ProComm source code.

The latest version (v1.1) was recently posted to the "private" news
group unix-pc.sources just a few days ago.  I mailed the source to
Rich Salz a few weeks back, but so far, it hasn't appeared in
comp.sources.unix yet (actualy, nothing has appeared in comp.sources.unix
in over a month).

The (older) v1.0 release appeared in comp.sources.unix about six 
months ago.  However, the older release was not too well suited for
286 unix...  (That's why there is a new release!)
