Archive Tape Problems under Xenix 2.3

Netlanders-
My lovely company is experiencing problems with Xenix 2.3 and Archive's
FT-60 tape backup units.  The rumor around the work place is that
Xenix has a bug in the updated tar, however, we have been unable to
test this out.  

Has anyone else been experiencing any problems with the above set-up?
Any solutions?  Thanks in advance!
