bar codes, scanners, inventory, factor floor automation

I am looking for some information regarding programs/hardware to install
in an AT386 box running SCO Xenix.   I would like to create a system to
implement Bar Codes for an inventory control system, as well as a factory
floor timestudy system.  I know there are packages available.  Could someone
give me a lead with a phone number and company name?  Actually, I want to
be able to use this program from external programs (print bar codes for
load tags etc, and then be able to scan them back in with my own programs).

I am not language dependant.  Anything would probably fine (pascal, cobol,
C, Business Basic, standard basic, maybe even 8088 assembly).  I am relatively
familiar with all of the above.  Any information is appreciated.
