Xenix 2.3 Line Disciplines

I friend of mine (lukek at icon.oz) installed a line discipline
into a xenix 2.3.2 kernel. He put the entry into linesw in usr/sys/conf/c.c
and compiled and  linked the kernel. When he rebooted the system
he tried to change line disciplines with an ioctl, but when
he retrieved the c_line field it was set to the previously highest 
line discipline.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
