Speaker Under VP/ix

I am trying to run a program under VP/ix which requires the operation of
the computers internal speaker to generate a 750 Hz. tone of variable
duration.

The program works fine under MS-DOS, however, under VP/ix 1.1a (SCO Xenix
386 2.3.3 GT) all I can get out of the speaker is a series of "clicks".

Anyone have any suggestions, fixes or work arounds?
