Xenix watchdog question?

I know this question may have been asked in this newsgroup before but I
sure wasn't there when it did, so excuse me if this is a repetition.

I have two programs running simultanously and I want one of them to
watch the keyboard input while the other runs on the screen.  In short,
I want the watchdog to be transparent, it only has to detect the
keystrokes and set a flag.  The other process which is actually displaying
its output on the screen will periodically interrupt the watchdog which
will check the flag's status and consequently take some actions.
