To the gentleman with the vi problem (I forgot to save your posting):
To get vi to bring the command you want whenever you enter "vi," create a
file in your home directory called ".exrc". Type the command as you want it.
This will also work for any other command. For instance:
map g .=
will give you the line number whenever you want it.
