One thing I can think of would be to have your csnet stuff feed into news
or notes instead of sendmail. It shouldn't be that hard to have news accept
this stuff. you wouldn't need to take a news feed for this, simply find a
nice interface for your stuff to come into. Another thing would be to
teach sendmail links or have indirect pointers in your mailboxes that point
to the messages in another location that could be preened out occasionally.
